Domme

Distance from La Barde: 15 minutes

Domme, the templars history

Fortified town of Black Perigord, Domme is perched on a breathtakingly high cliff and overlooks the Dordogne Valley ; La Roque-Gageac, Beynac, and you will also glimpse the Montfort Château !

But Domme is also the templars history, jailed in the “Porte des tours” in 1307. They let there numerous graffitis, touching token of their faith. 7 boards were carved, all attached to the religious illustration and that deliver a mysterious message no one has decrypted. Maybe these illustrations are they hiding the Spiritual Treasure of the “Ordre du Temple” knights.

The village itself contains main road leading from the village square to the beautiful panorama on the Valley. You will find there some art craftsmen shops and local producers. Above all, there is in this village a very good and gastronomic restaurant hidden in one of the perpendicular little street and that we will advise you during your stay at La Barde.

We visited it for you !

During the low season, you will easily park your car in one of the town parking. In summer, everything is different. It’s often difficult to access to the city and it will be easier for you to park in the very big parking at the foot of the mound and to take the little train.

3 points of interest : “Notre-Dame de l’assomption” church, the guided tour on the templars history and of course the beautiful view on the Dordogne Valley !
