Gouffre de Proumeyssac

Crystal cathedral

Gouffre de Proumeyssac

Famous in the 18th century for its legends, Proumeyssac was not explored until 1907. Back then, visitors descended into the chasm 3 by 3 using a horse-drawn gondola.

Today, you can enjoy the same sensations thanks to a larger, mechanical gondola that gives you a 360° view of the chasm. Of course, this service is available at an additional cost.

This is now the largest cave in the Périgord. Many crystallisation treasures are hidden throughout the chasm. At a height of around forty metres, you’ll discover 4 superb monumental concretions, each weighing several tonnes, which adorn the vault like diamonds in a crown. This grandiose site takes you on a wonderful stroll along little paths between stalactites and stalagmites, while enjoying the sights and sounds of the visit. A magical experience!
