Gouffre de Padirac

A majestic and exceptional geological site

Gouffre de Padirac

The Gouffre de Padirac is an exceptional site made famous by the explorer Edouard-Alfred Martel at the end of the 19th century. Using torches, the first visitors had the chance to discover this grandiose site as early as 1898. In 120 years, the site has grown from 4,000 visitors to 100 times that number today. Today, it is the most famous chasm in Europe and one of France’s greatest geological curiosities.

After a vertiginous descent to a depth of 103 metres, either by staircase or lift, you can enjoy a boat ride on the translucent waters of the chasm. Afterwards, you’ll discover some of Padirac’s most incredible features, including the Salle du Grand Dôme, whose vault rises to a height of 94 metres. A play of light on its walls perfectly highlights the beauty of this natural site.
