Villages and fortified towns
Long a battleground between the English and the French, the Dordogne is famous for its perfectly preserved fortified towns. Visiting them is like taking a magnificent trip back in time.
The towns and villages of the region are also jewels in the crown, with their typical architecture and medieval atmosphere.
The Périgord is home to ten villages classified as the ‘Most Beautiful Villages in France’, two of which are built into the rock along the Dordogne river.
Less than 20 minutes from our house, you won’t want to miss Sarlat, Domme, La Roque-Gageac, Beynac et Cazenac and Daglan.
And depending on your time and itinerary, we can also give you a few suggestions of other villages to visit.
