Below tunnels of the prehistoric cave were discovered in 1922 by 2 adolescents. Ranked as Historic Monument, it has been open to the public from 1926.

Real memory of the Earth, Pech Merle contains a lot of incredible prehistoric works, as the most famous is “les chevaux ponctués”. These ones are very well preserved and representative to all technics and art of cave subjects.

We visited it for you !

Thanks to the very well preserved works, it’s easier to discern their outline, that makes the visit very interesting. We would like to spend hours and hours to observe them. Some of these drawings evoke a symbolism that it’s sometimes difficult to explain; it gives to the cave a mysterious atmosphere. Maybe will you feel it !
