Montfort, an oasis of calm in Perigord
Our guesthouse is located in the charming Montfort hamlet, in which its beautiful castle overlooked the Dordogne.
The castle history is huge. It knew a lot of destructions and reconstructions since 866. We retain 3 owners : Bernard de Casnac and Simon de Montfort, but also its actual owner Ghaith Pharaon. Unfortunately, the Château is private and by the way not open to the visit.
But the village has other treasures. With its little streets restored in 2013, Montfort is only accessible on foot. A picnic area with some tables and view on the Dordogne has been set up 100 meters of our house, in the place called “La Roche persée”. At sunset, its softened light projects shades play on the rock, when last sunbeams find their place in the walnuts foliage. Mind-blowing !
After this area, you will notice stairs that lead to the river edge and especially to an ancient washing place, also restored during the same year. Follow the way and you will arrive on the other side of the village. At this place, 2 typical restaurants of the region are established ; you will find there local products and conviviality !
