Font de Gaume, superb sanctuary from paleolithic
Located in “Les Eyzies”, Font de Gaume is one of the most beautiful paleolithic sanctuary of the world. On its 120 meters length, you will discover 3 lateral tunnels and numerous painted or carved figurations representing bisons, horses, mammoths and reindeers, etc. These art witnesses are generally associated to the Magdalenien period (15 000 before J.C.).
First occupiers of the cave were bears, followed by Neanderthal men, but also recently by modern men. As well as different medieval pieces of pottery, the recent visits of the site have especially been confirmed thanks to the period graffitis.

We visited it for you !
Font de Gaume is THE cave that we advise our guests to visit. Unfortunately, every year, the number of delivered tickets decreases; this year the number is 80 per day. Tickets are on sale on site only on the very day; no possible booking. Moreover, maybe you will succeed in getting tickets but only for some hours later ? During the high season, in summer, some of our guests waited during 2 hours before the ticket office opened to have chance buying ticket.
To access to the different tunnels, you’ll feel like explorers, walking in winding paths, with 3 to 1.5 meters width and somme identified narrowing as the Rubicon.
