Reignac, a unusual and impenetrable Château
“La Maison Forte de Reignac” is the secretest Château of Perigord. Leaning to the cliff, you can feel all the history emerged of it. Built during the 15th Century on a site previously inhabited during the prehistory, it was occupied until the 20th Century.
Preserved in an exceptional state and entirely furnished with period furnitures, it’s the only “Château falaise” (cliff castle) monument totally undamaged in France. Never open to the public, it’s only since 2006 that visitors have had the good luck to discover it.
Surprisingly, Reignac is more spacious that you can believe it at first sight ! It conceals beautiful rooms, underground and air spaces. At the visit end, an optional exhibition international renowned on torture and death penalty theme takes place in a specific area.
The site is open every day of the year, from February holidays until the 30th November and during the Christmas holidays. You will find all the prices information here.
We visited it for you !
Reignac is a fantastic site ! One of a kind in France, this “Maison Forte” unveils numerous treasures over the visit that have to be discovered !
Be careful about the exhibition on the torture theme ! It’s terrific and by the way forbidden for children who are less than 12. Some of us couldn’t finish it and had to go outside so much that they were sick with the view of these texts, images and sometimes torture tools !
