Hautefort, one of the Dordogne most impressive castle
Hautefort is a former medieval fortress. During the 17th Century, it has been transformed into pleasure-dwelling and today stilling has a splendid period furnitures collection. With its classicism style, the castle looks more like a Château from the Loire Valley than the one you will find in the Dordogne area. Its imposing and majestic shape is the reflection of its lords rank and power.
Outside the Château, on ten or so hectares, you will admire and take a walk in the French-style and the English-style gardens designed by the count of Choulot during the 19th Century; these gardens were revisited by the baron and baroness of Bastard in the 20th Century who have decided to make way for box trees and topiary art.
Every Wednesday of summer, you can discover the Château in an original way with the “La nuit au Château” animation.
Hautefort is open from April to November. You will find all the price information here.
